Tanenbaum’s K-12 education program helps educators establish classroom communities that celebrate pluralism and respect.

Our pedagogy, The Seven Principles for Inclusive Education, is a unique framework for our multicultural and multi-religious training and curricula. Both the training and curricula are K-12.  The curricula are literacy based, standards referenced, and academically integrated, thus reinforcing academic priorities.

Through exploring multiculturalism, multicultural education, cooperative activities and peer-learning, our program trains educators to teach children to value and respect themselves, each other, and their shared environment through academic lessons.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Religion & Diversity Education Program Associate will report to the Manager of Programs and work with the Executive Vice President. The Associate will be primarily responsible for supporting the Program’s management in rolling out and implementing the program in diverse settings and in the design of the program.  This may include evening and weekend hours, some travel, and the following:

-Assisting to design and implement educator training/staff development trainings to include:
                 -Professional development training for public, private, religious and afterschool educators
                 -Large-scale educator training/staff development modules for program dissemination in existing and new sites in the New York region and beyond
                 -Work with program staff to revise, modify and adapt all training curricula based on observations, evaluations, teacher experiences and recommendations
                
                 -Modeling all program lessons and activities

                 -On-going research for training program content
                
                 -Conduct Informal consultations


-Collaborate and initiate on outreach, marketing and presentations to new schools, educators, Tanenbaum’s Board of Directors and other leadership.

                   -Foster and maintain relationships and work with Education Program Advisory Council to help move program forward.

-Work in cooperation with Development team to identify potential program funders and prepare proposals


-Work with Department to identify new directions and applications for Religion & Diversity Education program and other Tanenbaum initiatives


-Observe and monitor program implementation in the classroom and in after school settings through:
                 -Structured site visits and record of observations (field notes) with respect to curriculum and its impact, the effectiveness of educator training/staff development, and recommendations for program modification, improved educator training/staff development training design and evaluation enhancement

-Liaise with consultants on assessment and adaptation of program curricula

                 -Review all educational materials to assure their utility in the classroom and after school setting;

-Work with program staff and consultants to design and implement evaluations of trainings, curriculum implementation and impact

-Train and manage education program interns

-Responsible for drafting letters, memos, filing and other support functions



QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS

-BA and experience in K-12 school settings; MA and certification a plus.

-Knowledge of current trends in education and education philosophy.

religion and conflict resolution intern

Fall 2009

Tanenbaum’s Religion and Conflict Resolution Program works to further the effective use of religiously motivated peacemakers as a positive force in conflict resolution. Our initiatives promote religious peacemaking as an urgently needed component of Track II (citizen) diplomacy and strengthen the impact of religiously motivated men and women engaged in resolving conflicts worldwide.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Religion and Conflict Resolution Intern position is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and motivated student or recent graduate to play an influential role in cutting-edge efforts in the fields of conflict resolution and international affairs.

The Intern will support all aspects of the Religion and Conflict Resolution Program and work at least 15 hours weekly. Primary responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

-Executing the nomination cycle for the next Peacemakers in Action and Women’s Peace Initiative honorees

-
Conducting outreach to potential nominators, including use of social media tools.

-Using spreadsheets to track incoming nominations and manage research processes.


-Conducting extensive research and critical analysis of Peacemaker candidates, including the individuals’ efforts in and contributions to peacebuilding in their community and the conflict and religious situation in which they work.


-Assist with ranking and sorting incoming nominations for review by the selection committee.


-Conduct internet research on the current Peacemakers’ work in conflict resolution and assist in promoting their efforts through documenting media coverage and through other communication methods. (For more information on the Peacemakers, see: Peacemaker Awardees)

-Survey relevant blogs and draft comments to assist in building the program’s online presence.

-Assist in preparing program staff for local, national and international meetings and travel.


-Support program capacity by managing files and archives.

-Serve as a member of the program team, participating in weekly meetings.

religion and diversity education intern


Fall 2009

The Religion and Diversity Education Intern reports to the Religion and Diversity Education Program Associate and will work at least 10-15 hours weekly. 

Tanenbaum's Religion and Diversity Education program trains K-12 educators to establish classrooms that celebrate pluralism and practice respect through our Intensive Educator training, as well as more concentrated pedagogical and curricula trainings.


Within this program, a variety of curricula teaching respect for differences are offered to educators that are literacy-based, standards-referenced, and academically integrated. Our Religion and Diversity Education program includes a unique multicultural and multi-religious curricular program for educators to use with students in grades K-6 and high school. 
The Religion and Diversity Education program reinforces academic lessons, exposes children to new cultures, and gives them valuable skills to mollify conflicts.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Religion and Diversity Education Intern reports to the Manager of Programs and the Program Associate, and will work at least 8-10 hours weekly with the Religion and Diversity Education program staff.

The Religion and Diversity Education Intern’s primary responsibilities will be to support the further development of all aspect of the program including trainings, outreach, program implementation and administrative support. This may include:

-Working with program staff to modify all current curricula.

-Assisting in outreach efforts to educators including but not limited to searching for electronic media pertaining to the program, drafting responses for blogs.


-Assisting in conducting research on educational policy and theory, occasionally creating lesson plans, and identifying resources for educators


-Assisting in the design and delivery of training modules for educators, including sessions on Tanenbaum’s pedagogy, theoretical overviews of multicultural education, and individual curricula


-Traveling to sites to observe and monitor trainings and program implementation in the classroom


-Administrative support: drafting letters, formatting curricula for publishing, memos, filing, faxing, copying, mailings and other support functions

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS
-Commitment to the mission and goals of Tanenbaum

-Completion of at least two semesters of college, be a current undergraduate or graduate student (Spring -2010 graduates are eligible), and an academic or experiential background in elementary, middle or high school education

-Ability to work 10-15 hours a week

-Knowledge of current theories in elementary, middle and high school education

-Lesson planning experience is a plus!

religious diversity in health care intern

Fall 2009

Tanenbaum is one of the leading organizations in the world focused on the religious dimension of cultural competence in health care. We work directly with national and international organizations ranging from large health care systems to professional medical associations to insurance providers to small- and mid-size hospitals, and participate in national and international conferences. We have also recently completely a book, The Medical Manual for Religio-Cultural Competencey


Our trainings and materials help health care professionals at all levels communicate effectively and respectfully with patients and their families around religious issues and understand the variety of ways religious beliefs and practices interface with health care. Our services include: briefings and workshops, webinars, panel discussions, conference workshops and plenary sessions, consulting on best practices as well as comprehensive needs assessments of health care facilities.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Health Care Intern will be responsible for supporting a growing program through research, outreach and contributions to the creation of program materials. 

Responsibilities will include the following:


-Identify, locate and collect/summarize research on religion and health care


-Draft memoranda and analyses of breaking issues for program and executive staff


-Assist with preparation of training and presentation materials, and attend sessions as support staff as needed.


-Assist in coordination of Tanenbaum webinars and in production of content and collateral materials


-Research potential outreach targets for our programming, including conference RFPs, professional associations and health care systems.


-Provide administrative support for Program Associate (e.g., filing, correspondence, scheduling.

religious diversity in the workplace intern

Tanenbaum pioneered the work in religious diversity in the workplace. We conduct national surveys and work directly with national and international corporations, government agencies, institutions of higher learning and leading not-for-profits to train them on how to address issues of religious bias and accommodation in an increasingly diverse workforce. We provide briefings and workshops, webinars, panel discussions, policy reviews and consulting on best practices. In fact, a global study by the International Labor Organization of the U.N. cited Tanenbaum as one of only a few organizations worldwide doing this work.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Workplace Intern reports to the Workplace Program Associate and will work 10-15 hours weekly.

The Workplace Intern will be responsible for supporting a growing program through research, outreach and contributions to the creation of program materials. 

Responsibilities will include the following:

- Research and understand common diversity and inclusion initiatives, with an emphasis on workplace discrimination and religious accommodation.

- Draft memoranda and analyses of breaking issues for program and executive staff

- Coordinate all phases of outreach tp potential clients: Research potential targets, draft outreach materials and conduct follow-up

- Assist in coordination of Tanenbaum training events/webinars and in production of training materials

- Assist in drafting and editing of materials for Tanenbaum website

- Provide administrative support for the Program Associate (e.g., filing, correspondence, scheduling)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

This is an excellent opportunity for professional growth within a dynamic organization. The Administration Intern will report to the Operations Manager and the Managing Director of Operations, and will work approximately 15 hours weekly, with the following responsibilities:

-Provide administrative support for Tanenbaum (filing, faxing, copying, phones, messenger, supplies etc.)

-Provide administrative support for the Executive Vice President (telephone calls, e-mails, correspondence)

-Provide administrative support for the Managing Director of Operations (research; vendor relations; donation confirmations; assist with facility management and human resources)

-Maintain database, generate reports and mail merges.

-Provide support for computer users in word processing and data entry.

-Design brochures, newsletters, mailings, templates.

-Prepare general correspondence.

-Conduct research for organization’s various divisions, as needed.

-Such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
