"I do believe that religion is indeed the major cause of must conflict in the world today.  And i would say if
it is a cause, it must also
be part of the cure."

why care about exploring the religious roots of prejudice?

  • Because the seeds of religious prejudice and hatred - rooted in historical conflicts - can be found in the teachings of many religions.

  • Because religion provides a "halo effect" for hatred that can be used to justify hostility against religious "others."

  • Because we tend not to understand the history of religious conflicts impartially, which breeds ongoing mistrust, tension and conflict.

  • Because we are challenged to honors our own traditions and still respect the beliefs of others.

Tanenbaum is dedicated to convening scholars and theologians from different traditions to explore their historical relationships, their attitudes about each other and how to teach accurately about one another.  We partner with academic and religious organizations, including the International Council of Christians and Jews, Three Faiths Forum, Catholic Theological Union, the Center for Jewish History and Sacred Heart University.

We also educate future religious leaders and represent a voice on interreligious respect at the Vatican, the World Council of Churches, the World Lutheran Organization and Union Theological Seminary, among others.
